Hi! I’m Soren.

I was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa and earned my undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame.

While there I enjoyed many travel opportunities, including studying abroad at Imperial College London in their carbon capture pilot plant, singing through two tours in Europe with the Notre Dame Glee Club men’s choir, and acquiring two undergraduate travel grants to study the Syrian refugee crisis.

In graduate school, I followed my fascination for thermodynamics to Juan de Pablo’s group in the PME, where I use molecular simulations to study the three-dimensional structure of chromatin. I’ve also found a love for the creative process of teaching and have had several great opportunities to engage with undergraduates in teaching roles.

Outside of lab I enjoy running, homebrewing, spending time with my wife and one-year-old, and diving into friendly conversations about big questions in science, philosophy, and theology.
